Police Department

Mission:

Lead the fight to prevent crime and injustice,

Enforce the law fairly and defend the rights of all.

Partner with the people we serve to secure and promote safety in our community.

OUR CORE VALUES:

As a leader in this Department, I commit myself to honorably perform my duties with respect for the dignity of all people, integrity to do right and fight wrongs, wisdom to apply common sense and fairness in all I do, and courage to stand against racism, sexism, and anti-Semitism, homophobia and bigotry in all its form.

OUR CREED:

My goals are simple, I will always be painfully honest,

Work as hard as I can, learn as much as I can and

Hopefully, make a difference in people’s lives.

Police Officer Positions

The Police Department is comprised of 23 sworn, 6 civilian employees and 1 crossing guard dedicated to serving the City of Greenfield. Six police officer positions are budgeted in the Measure X Sales Tax Fund and 2 police officer positions in the COPS Grants Fund as School Resource Officers.

The Department has also budgeted 2 additional unfunded Police Officer positions in fiscal year 2016 and will apply for supplemental federal funding through the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program. In addition, the Department has 2 volunteers who volunteer their time to provide translation, crime analysis, and other services to the City.
The members of the Department bring diverse life experiences and cultural perspectives to the City, which provide excellent foundations for community service and outreach. The Police Department will continue to recruit applicants for the Police Officer position and Reserve Officer Program. Potential candidates will apply, a thorough background check will be conducted, and then be afforded the opportunity to participate in a formal Field Training Program to enhance and develop their patrol skills.
